Probably not going to call her back.

If you’re anything like me and you receive a voicemail that simply says, “Hey, it’s so and so, can you call me back? I need to ask you something.” The answer 100% depends on who left it.

What is it that they need to ask? Is it something quick and easy? Will this take an hour? Why couldn’t they just ask the thing in the voicemail?

When my sister calls, she does this one out of ten times. The other nine, she doesn’t even leave a message. She says that her merely calling and my phone showing the missed call is her message. Here’s the thing, I live in rural Vermont. If I walk down my driveway to take a walk, bam- no cell service.

Now, there are plenty of times when I did see that she called, but I was in the middle of something or on another call. Whether she left no message or her standard one, I have no idea how long the thing she needs to ask me about is going to take. In my mind, getting back to her goes on the back burner. The one way in the back.

It’s simple. Provide a little context in your message, actually leave a message, and you magically rise to the front of my priority list.

Then again, maybe it’s on me for my archaic outgoing message. I mean, it does say, “Hey, it’s Sean. Leave a message and I’ll call you back.”

She does follow the rules 10% of the time.
